Spirit Families: Rum

Now for a moment to speak to my favorite spirit…. drum roll ….. RUM

Rum is distilled from cane juice, the scummings of the boiled juice, treacle or molasses, or even from the lees of former distillations. Rum has a sweet taste and can be clear or amber to dark brown.

The taste of rum usually reveals the clear flavor of the sugar or molasses used in its production. Light or dark, count rum as a sweet when considering its use in your drinks.

Rum is not neutral by any means. You will always taste it in the drink although when mixed with sweet mixers or fruit it does drop more into the background.

Next time we’ll examine an old west staple, whiskey.

Until then may all your drinks be tasty. Cheers.

Board Game – Smash-It

I promise, after this game, we’ll be getting back to the drink education.
I really loved designing tabletop games and RPGs when I was younger and this was, I felt, one of my best beer-and-pretzels, play-anywhere games

Smash-it allows 2 or more players to move pieces around a board built from their individual boards in an attempt to smash their opponents crystal markers and win the game by being the lone survivor. As more players are added the game becomes a madhouse of action.

Card Game – 5 Man Melee

Everyone wants to have fun when they drink. I mean, alcohol is a blast unto itself but it’s a time honored tradition to have some sort of pub game.
I came up with a card game that involves strategy, combat, and memory called Five Man Melee.
It was designed to be played with 2-4 players but really any amount can play if you have enough cards.
The rules are contained in this PDF. Just download, grab some friends and some cards and battle for dominance.

Until next time, may all your drinks be tasty. Cheers.
